Event Spotlight

The History of Juneteenth

The AAMBC has created a multimedia exhibit to be displayed at Sesame Place from June 5th -28th in the Sesame Theater. The exhibit will feature a timeline representing the seeds of abolitionism all the way up to the declaration of Juneteenth as a national holiday. A short video on the meaning of Juneteenth will be shown continuously in the theater.

Topics to be included in the timeline are: Seeds of Abolitionism laid in Pennsylvania – Quakers 1775, Famous Black Abolitionists, The Fugitive Slave Act, African American Soldiers in the Civil War, President Lincoln and The Emancipation Proclamation, the Meaning of Juneteenth and ending with President Biden declaring Juneteenth a national holiday in 2021.

Scholarship

Millard Mitchell Scholarship

The AAMBC seeks to recognize student achievements by celebrating and awarding high school seniors who are dedicated to serving their school and their community. In 2019, the Museum established the Millard Mitchell Scholarship as a way to support deserving graduating high school students who intend to further their education. The annual Millard Mitchell Scholarship is a one-time award of at least $500 dollars presented to at least three students who have been accepted by an accredited post-secondary institution.
